What can be done to increase your immune system's effectiveness?

Human bodies are made up of trillions upon trillions of cells. These cells collaborate to create organs, tissues and other functions. Another cell takes its place when a cell dies. Hormones, which are chemical signals that allow cells to communicate with one another, enable them to do so. Hormones regulate all bodily functions from growth and developmental to metabolism and immunity.

Hormones refer to chemicals produced throughout the body by glands. They travel through bloodstreams and act as messengers that control the function of our bodies. Some hormones are made internally, while others are created outside the body.

The hormone-producing glands release their contents into bloodstream. This is when hormone production starts. Once hormones become active, they move throughout the body until reaching their target organ. Some hormones are only active for a brief time. Some hormones remain active for longer periods of time and can continue to have an impact on the body's function long after they are gone.

Some hormones may be produced in large numbers. Others are produced in smaller amounts.

Some hormones are made at certain times in our lives. For example, estrogen is made during puberty. Women can get estrogen to build breasts, prevent osteoporosis, and keep their bones healthy. It is also known to promote hair growth and keep skin soft and smooth.
